You cannot fully understand yourself just by looking into a mirror. Images (like personal or cultural identities) are multifaceted, ever changing and most importantly, constructed.

This work was created when I began grappling with the racial, social and political tensions woven throughout the contemporary Australian landscape. By manipuating 35mm negatives, I aim encourage the viewer to look beyond the narrative of ‘landscape’ and focus instead on the ways in which photographs are materialised. This challenges analogue photography’s historical relationship to indexicality by focusing on the landscape photograph not as a mirror of reality, but as an interpretation of it.
